New York prosecutors are leaving their jobs in droves, citing low pay and pandemic burnout. Many prosecutors are leaving their public service jobs for law firms. So far in 2022, 36 Brooklyn prosecutors have left and 44 from Manhattan’s district attorney’s office have quit. At least 28 have left the Bronx and 9 from Staten Island. District attorneys say that their city-funded budgets do not allow them to pay prosecutors competitively. The starting salary in Manhattan and Brooklyn for prosecutors is $72,000. In the Bronx it is $75,121, despite the higher than average cost of living.
