President Joe Biden has announced a $6 billion effort to help struggling nuclear power plants avoid collapse. The administration recently opened applications for a civil nuclear credit program that will bail out distressed nuclear power plants, amid high costs, to keep them from shutting down. This move aligns with Biden’s commitment to transition more of American infrastructure to clean energy. His $5.8 trillion budget for fiscal 2023 includes $44.9 billion for clean energy and other programs designed to fight the effects of climate change.
